Teen killed, PDP MP’s house attacked in Kashmir

Reports said that clashes erupted in Ompora for the second consecutive day today. Most of the people were reportedly injured in Budgam and Bandipore district. Photojournalists covering these clashes alleged that a police driver from Shaheed Ganj police station used abusive language and even tried to manhandle them. The MP was not present in the house, but some of his family members were present in the house.

Amid observing complete shutdown, the other areas of South Kashmir also witnessed protests and clashes as per reports.

Addressing the nation during his address in the 23rd edition of his “Mann ki Baat” programme, Prime Minister Modi said, “Any life lost in Kashmir, whether of any youth or any security personnel, is our own loss”.

A complete shutdown was observed in Rajouri, Poonch and adjoining areas against the civilian killings in Kashmir and to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir, where 86 people have been killed in forces’ action during the past 51 days. The Army fired at the protesting crowd, leaving six people injured.

He said Danish died while being shifted to a hospital. People, including women and elderly, took part in the demonstration to demand resolution of the Kashmir issue by implementing United Nations resolutions.

Protest rallies and demonstrations, however, continued on Tuesday as well against illegal occupation of the valley by Indian forces.

The women protesters were chanting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans and later dispersed peacefully.

While public transport continued to be off roads, there was increased movement of private cars and auto-rickshaws on the roads here this morning, the official said. The security forces opened fire as protesters refused to disperse after tear smoke shells and pellets were fired at them. The police could not be reached for a comment on the incident. A same kind of rally was scheduled in Badasgam area of Anantnag district that too was foiled by government forces. A large number of people in these areas staged anti-India protests.

Locals in Srinagar said restrictions were imposed in several areas of Srinagar immediately after the clashes.

The incident triggered massive protests in the area and its adjoining localities.

The deceased has been identified as Danish Manzoor (28), resident of Nadihal.
