Teen on hospital ventilator after Florida face-biting attack
When asked if he knew the man, he replied, “I have no idea”. “We want to know everything we can about our suspect”.

“There was an enormous amount of violence in that garage”, Snyder said, who described the incident as “completely unprovoked and random attack”.
A college student killed a Florida couple and then tried to eat the face of one of the victims on Monday, an act that appeared to be entirely at random, local law enforcement said.
While walking home, he passed John Joseph Stevens III, 59, and his wife, Michelle Stevens, 53. The couple kept the door open, and sometimes neighbors would bring by folding chairs on Sundays to watch the Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons. She said they would drive around the neighborhood in their golf cart with the dog sitting with them. Something drove the teen mad, and he fumed out. Sheriff Snyder is on scene.
His teammates said they didn’t think he would hurt a fly.
Harrouff’s father, Wade B. Harrouff, lives close to the restaurant. Tests are pending, reports the Palm Beach Post.
FSU Police Maj. Jim Russell says the department has reached out to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office to offer any assistance if needed.
Attacker Austin Harrouff is on a ventilator in wake of the attack on Monday night.
Jim Hall, an epidemiologist at the Center for Applied Research on Substance Use and Health Disparities at Nova Southeastern University, said: ‘The individual becomes psychotic, they often rip off their clothes and run out into the street violently and have an adrenaline-like strength and police are called and it takes four or five officers to restrain them’.
The neighbor, who called 911 at about 9:20 p.m., was also stabbed as he tried to help the couple.
The couple, he said, fought back.
“(The deputy) realized that the offender was actually biting the victim in the face and causing what turned out to be some substantial trauma to his face from bite marks”, Snyder said.
The neighbor, 47-year-old Jeff Fisher, was stabbed and was taken to a nearby hospital for surgery, police said. I ran over there and I’m bleeding profusely here at the moment.
“It’s just beyond me why that would happen”, Maddox said outside the family’s home Tuesday morning. Officers didn’t fire on Harrouff because they didn’t want to harm Stevens who they weren’t certain was dead.
Additional deputies responded and stung Harrouff multiple times with tasers.
Harrouff was biting Stevens’ face, Snyder said. However, he continued with his cannibalistic attack.
Finally, the three deputies – unable to fire their guns for fear of striking Stevens – were able to pull him away together.
Soon after the attack, Snyder suggested Harrouff may have been on “flakka,” a synthetic stimulant that is similar to amphetamines. Snyder added that Moore had exhibited signs of excited delirium.
“It’s like taking speed and losing your mind at the same time”, he said.
It will take longer to test for less common hallucinogens such as bath salts or flakka – a synthetic drug which was popular in south Florida briefly in 2014 and 2015, but fell out of favour after due to its serious side-effects. But toxicology results showed no trace of the drug.
Stevens’ daughter, Ivy, had moved out of the house days before, Maddox said.
