The boy’s family had been staying at the ski resort but there is no word yet on who he was or where he was from.
On Dec. 22, at approximately 4:50 p.m., the Comox Valley RCMP were notified of a missing 15-year-old male snowboarder at Mount Washington Ski Resort, near Courtenay.
The RCMP and coroner were returning to the scene Wednesday to examine the scene in daylight conditions.
He could not say if tree wells are common on a ski hill or not.
Brown noted Reid’s death was just three days before Christmas. “Our sincerest condolences go out to the family”. “This is a very sad tragedy”, said general manager Peter Gibson.
Kyfiuk was a grade 10 student at Claremont Secondary school in Cordova Bay and an experienced snowboarder who reportedly knew Mount Washington well.
They request that anyone asking “what can they do” to please pray for Reid by Googling the Divine Mercy Chaplet and to please add in Reid’s name when saying the Rosary, according to the SMHA message.
