Deputies were dispatched to the woods behind Foster’s home on Dalrymple Road and Harris Bridge Road just before 7 p.m., Shore said.
She died of a single gunshot wound from a high-powered rifle, according to Shore.
The medical examiner reported her foster father is who accidentally shot her while they were deer hunting on her property.
Hunting was a hobby for the Pendleton High teen, Shore said, and she often went hunting after school.
An autopsy will be performed Friday, Shore said.
The coroner’s office is investigating along with the Department of Natural Resources.
Avery said counselors will be available to Pendleton High School students to help cope with the loss.
