Hospital bosses say she died of “suspected MDMA consumption” but her family insist she had been ill since she suffered a fall four days earlier.
“She had been taking painkillers all weekend”.
“She died from a cardiac arrest”.
Mr McDonald added: “What has been said about drugs is a load of rubbish” and the family is “devastated”.
Reports suggest the girl overdosed on ecstasy and was in a critical condition when she reached hospital.
Friends have paid tribute to the teenager on Facebook.
He told theDaily Record that the cause of her death is now unknown.
A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that a British national has died in Ibiza on the September 22”.
‘We have met with the family and will continue to provide support at this hard time’. While the autopsy is expected to reveal only partial results, further analysis will take place at a specialist lab in Barcelona.
Hospital staff on the island also confirmed the tragedy.
“She was admitted to the hospital intensive care unit in a critical condition and two hours later died from heart failure”.
“She was brought here by ambulance from a private clinic and admitted to intensive care”.
Spain’s Guardia Civil have launched an investigation into her death.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out by Spanish authorities.
