The teen and three family members were aboard the helicopter on a sightseeing tour when it crashed into the water near the Pearl Harbour Visitor Center in Hawaii.

The 16-year-old was initially trapped underwater had to be cut free from his seat by other bystanders, while Alicia gave him CPR.

Two family members remain hospitalized in stable condition.

Dobson attended Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute in Guelph.

Riley Dobson of Guelph, Ontario, was well known in Ontario’s equestrian show-jumping community.

The boy’s family have chosen to donate his organs to patients in need so that “his memory lives on”, said Gidget Ruscetta, chief operating officer at Pali Momi Medical Center where the boy was treated, said in a statement.

The pilot was also injured in the crash.

Federal authorities are investigating the crash. The aircraft was being operated by Genesis Helicopters as a local air tour flight under the provisions of Federal Aviation Regulations part 91. The website for Genesis Helicopters says it was founded by Gebhard and conducts tours over Oahu.

No one answered the phone Wednesday at a number listed for Gebhard.

Tourist Shawn Winrich was taking photos of Pearl Harbor when he saw a helicopter “essentially coming straight at us” at the popular tourist destination. The crash was recorded on dramatic video.

The reason for the helicopter suddenly dropping out of the sky just a few metres offshore as yet remains unknown.
