Teenager killed at Channel Tunnel’s French entrance

A young migrant, reportedly from east Africa, was found dead near the Channel Tunnel entrance in Calais on Wednesday night.

A teenager, believed to be from east Africa, has been killed by a freight train near the Channel Tunnel entrance in Calais, France.

At least 10 people have died trying to cross over to Britain from Calais since the refugee crisis erupted.

A spokesman for the police in the Pas-de-Calais region said an investigation was underway. However the Wall Street Journal said he could be 16 to 20 years old.

Officials from the local prefecture’s said the man’s body was discovered at around 2am on Thursday morning by the emergency services.

In a statement, Eurotunnel said: “There is a waiting time of approximately three and a half hours on the terminal”.

In one extraordinary attempt to enter the United Kingdom illegally, one Sudanese migrant managed to walk nearly the full length of the 31 Channel Tunnel before being arrested by British police half a mile from the end.

According to La Voix du Nord newspaper, the boy is the 12th person to have died in or around the Channel Tunnel in France since June. Last week, a Syrian refugee was electrocuted in the underground passage. The nationalities of the other two are not known.
