Separatists on Wednesday extended their shutdown call till September 8, asking people to march on roads for pro-freedom demonstrations.

Security forces have been deployed in strength in sensitive areas of the valley to maintain law and order, the official said.
On 31 August, as the authorities chose to lift the curfew from all areas of Kashmir, fresh clashes broke out between security forces and protesters in the Sopore area of North Kashmir, claiming the life of a 15-year-old boy.
Paramilitary troops fired live rounds as residents demonstrated against an earlier raid by soldiers searching for protest leaders in the northern village of Nadihal, a police officer said on condition of anonymity. The police could not be reached for a comment on the incident.
Nobody was present in the house when arsonists torched the residence of Nazir Laway in Chawalgam village of Kulgam district in south Kashmir, some 60 km from here.
Authorities had lifted curfew and restrictions from the entire Valley on Wednesday after 53 days since the unrest started after the killing of Hizbul Commander Burhan Wani on July 8.
“Curfew has been imposed in areas falling under the jurisdiction of Nowhatta and M.R.Gunj police stations in Srinagar city along with Baramulla”, a senior police official said.
Relatives of Irfan Ahmed, who according to local media died after being hit by a tear gas canister fired by security forces, mourn his death in Srinagar as the city remains under curfew following weeks of violence in Kashmir.
Violent clashes also erupted in Aishmuqam after security forces removed a marquee installed for a proposed protest sit-in on a road to the Pahalgam tourist resort.

At least 72 people, including two policemen, have been killed in almost two months of unrest that has paralysed normal life in the valley amid the government-imposed curfew and separatist-called shutdown. Educational institutions remained closed for the last 55 days and shops, markets and public transport have also remained suspended.
