Two male students in Virginia have been arrested and accused of plotting an attack at their high school, law enforcement officials said Saturday. Both are being detained at the Rappahannock Regional Juvenile Detention Center.

The students involved had planned to call in a bomb threat and then shoot teachers, students and administrators as they evacuated the building. The students, aged 15 and 17, are now under detention at a juvenile confinement center where they face charges of conspiracy to commit murder. They say the two juveniles were just wanting to cause mass casualties with gun violence. Pierce said that Riverbend High School was never placed on lockdown because the shooting plot was caught early enough that no one was in danger. “Due to this excellent working relationship, we were able to quickly and seamlessly identify a potential threat to our students and faculty”. Intensive investigative efforts and coordination between the Sheriff’s Office, School Administration and the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office led to a second arrest of a juvenile male on Friday.

Because the students are juveniles, the police would not name them.

As detectives continued to investigate, additional information was developed, potentially linking a second student to the planning and intent to carry out the plot with the first student. No other students have been linked to the threats or plot.
