Two teenagers have just added another chapter to their love story, one that includes possibly being struck by lightning in Claremont.

Teen lovebirds Dylan and Lexie (no last names given), were walking across a Claremont, California, street when they were hit by lightning. “It helped to diffuse the electrical current that ran through their bodies”, a doctor tells KCAL.

But Dr. Stefan Reynoso, who examined the couple afterward, said their hand-holding may have also saved them from being hurt or killed. The doctor told the teens the lightning probably entered Corliss’ head and exited through Varga’s left foot.

The couple now jokes about their ‘electric love.’. “These two were lucky they that they were holding hands”.

A passerby corroborated the teenagers’ testimony that the lightning hit them.

Describing the freakish incident in an interview with CBS Los Angeles, Dylan said: “It was more of just kind of shove, you know, and it felt kind of like I was getting hit over the head with metal or something”. ‘I kind of thought there was an natural disaster.’.

The next time you see lightning in the Bay Area, you may want to reach for someone’s hand – it could save your life!

Lexie’s mom said she sent a text message to the two to ask if they were back home and received a message from Lexie saying they had been hit by a lightning bolt. Lexie responded later that they had gotten hit.

“Holding hands is a good thing because if we hadn’t, we wouldn’t have shared the strike”, said Corliss.

Lexie Varga 17 and Dylan Corliss 16 were struck by lightning Thursday while walking hand in hand. A California doctor said their injuries could've been much worse had they not been holding hands
