Cespedes returned to the starting lineup in the Mets’ 9-5 Subway Series loss to the New York Yankees on Wednesday night, then said he will be put on the 15-day disabled list Thursday in another blow to the defending NL champions.

That was a prevailing question asked to manager Joe Girardi, and moments after Rodriguez as a pinch bitter in the ninth inning flied out to end the game.
Umpires did not issue any warnings.
Teixeira gave the Yankees the lead for good when he homered off Steven Matz (8-8) with two outs in the second.
Robles allowed three runs and retired just two batters in the seventh, snapping his career-high scoreless streak at 11 2/3 consecutive innings. Teixeira acted amused. Robles didn’t approve and jawed at Teixeira, standing on third, as he was walking off the mound.
“I know that the organization has a brighter future today than it did last week, and hopefully I’m part of that equation”, Rodriguez said. “I was just trying to have some fun with him and he started staring at me more and more and yelling stuff”. It was just amusing. I like him a lot. It’s a talent, I guess. In the seventh, Robles seemed to think Teixeira was stealing signs, and it seemed to rattle him.
“He took off, ran properly, all good signs”, Collins said about Cespedes and the good run down the line.
“It’s the same story that’s been getting me a lot this season”, Matz said.
“That’s not the way you play baseball”, Robles told reporters as he accused Teixeira of stealing signs. “Even though he’s an experienced major league player and a star in the big leagues, going to a new town and all the hoopla and you want to make an instant impact”.
But that’s how things go when the Mets play the Yankees, when baseball becomes as much theater as sport. The Yankees won, so they got to be jovial.
NOTES: Mets manager Terry Collins said he had no problems with OF Yoenis Cespedes playing golf after not starting three straight games with a quadriceps injury.
Even with all that, an actual baseball game was played at Yankee Stadium.

Alejandro De Aza started the scoring with a two-run, two-out homer in the third and Travis d’Arnaud added a solo homer in the fifth inning to push the lead to 3-0. The Mets picked up Jay Bruce at the deadline in one of the bigger moves across the league but has yet to get anything positive from the veteran at the plate.

Jacoby Ellsbury and Refsnyder each singled and Teixeira launched his 10th homer of the year, an opposite-field shot to right that gave the Yanks a 6-3 lead.
The absurdities continued the next inning, when Kelly Johnson hit what should have been a groundout to first. We’ve just gotten on both sides of the ball inconsistent.
For Mark Teixeira, the home run was nice.
Niese will pitch out of the bullpen after going 8-6 with a 4.91 ERA in 18 starts and five relief appearances with the Pirates. “It’s unfortunate the way it got turned around, because it’s certainly not what I meant by it”. “But we’ll leave it at that”.

But, as this series has shown over the past 20-years, there is always room for drama.
