The latest announcement regarding the Telegram Messenger was made at the Mobile World Congress 2016, where 31 year old Pavel Durov made an appearance, and said that the application has crossed over a hundred million users, and this is a particularly big achievement because they are literally spending zero money on ads/promotion.

Telegram still have only 1/10 users when compared to the messaging giant WhatsApp. It announced at the MWC that it had passed 100 million MAUs.

Shortly after launching, the messaging app claimed it had 100,000 users communicating on its encrypted platform and then in December 2014 there was 50 million active users, who were generating 1 billion messages daily.

Telegram recently revealed that its mobile messaging app topped 100 million monthly active users (MAUs). Telegram got a boost in its user base when Brazil blocked Whatsapp for 48 hours. It uses end-to-end encryption due to which no third-party can intercept the messages of its users.

The Telegram app was under a major controversy following the terror attacks in France, as it was brought to light that the terrorists used the Telegram messenger to communicate, as well as to propagate terrorist propaganda using the public channels. Earlier this month, Telegram released new updates through which users can listen and record voice messages by just lifting their phones.

Prior to creating Telegram with his brother, Durov founded VKontakte (VK), Russia’s most popular social network.
