Tempers flare again for Madison Bumgarner, Yasiel Puig

Since any little flame is a 4-alarm job when fanned by the San Francisco bullpen, the Dodgers pushed their National League West lead to six games with a 2-1 victory, and nudged the Giants one toe closer to the cliff.

“After Monday night’s altercation between Madison Bumgarner and Yasiel Puig, the Dodgers were sporting “#DontLookAtMe” T-shirts in the clubhouse ahead of Tuesday’s game. Since that initial incident took place, shirts have been made with the phrase “don’t look at me” put across the front (this was the phrase uttered by Bumgarner that basically started the feud).

“If it were turned around, I’m sure we’d do the same”, he said.

The Dodgers won the game 2-1. Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw throws to the plate during the first inning of a baseball game against the San Francisco Giants, Monday, Sept. 19, 2016, in Los Angeles. On September 24 later that season, Bumgarner hit Puig in the first inning.

“I think we’re getting a little carried away with the questions here”, he said, at a unusual time to be asking for restraint.

“When the benches clear, everyone gets fired up”, Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner said.

The Giants have now lost nine games this season after leading for eight innings, setting a franchise record.

Bumgarner said he didn’t hear what was going on and added, “I just got him out and he tried to stare me down or something”. “At the same time, you’ve got to be smart about it”.

By the way, that wasn’t the first dust-up between Bumgarner and Puig. “That’s what it looked like to me”.

Porcello wound up pitching a complete game-the shortest complete game of the season-and David Ortiz hit his 35th home run of the year, tying him for most homers in a farewell season by a major-leaguer. The Dodgers are 53-26 in their last 79 during game 3 of a series and 8-2 in Maedas last 10 starts.

Certainly the Dodgers had no fun against Bumgarner.

It didn’t seem possible a week ago, but the Giants, with their bullpen troubles, may be the team left out when the season ends October 2. Los Angeles reduced its magic number to seven for the division title.Giants relievers Will Smith and Derek Law combined to work a scoreless eighth before the Giants self-destructed in the final inning. Expect a solid five or six inning outing with two or three runs allowed.
