Tempers flare during Dodgers’ victory over the Giants

On Monday, the Giants apologized with this statement: “Last night a tweet mistakenly went out in reference to Bumgarner’s three strikeouts against Dodger Enrique Hernandez”.

Bumgarner fielded a slow tapper by Puig along the first base line and threw him out to end the inning.

After grounding out to Bumgarner in the 7 Inning, Puig must have looked at the Giants ace in a amusing way, enough for him to repeatedly tell the once-promising slugger, “Don’t look at me”. The season concludes with the teams playing three games against each other at San Francisco.

That beleaguered bullpen is a Giant problem for San Francisco.

The Jays and O’s are once again tied for the wild card lead, while Houston, with a win over Oakland remains three back, tied with Seattle who dropped a game.

The hashtag was in reference to what Bumgarner yelled at Puig after the seventh inning of Monday night’s game.

Bumgarner either just blanked out and went into fight mode or he knew he was coming out of the game or he just decided it was more important to get into something with Puig than go back to the dugout and get ready to finish the game.

“He and I talked”, Bochy said.

“Obviously, we understand what’s at stake, and we just want to play good baseball”, Roberts said. “At the same time, you’ve got to be smart about it”.

Maybe next time swap out that “A-OK” emoji for a face-palm, as that seems like the appropriate reaction to this season anyway.

As Cueto hobbled off the field, Giants manager Bruce Bochy stepped into his personal torture chamber and waved to the bullpen.

Porcello (21-4), the major league leader in wins, allowed four hits and no walks while striking out seven. He and Clayton Kershaw allowed no earned runs, but the Giants scored on a wild throw to second by Yasmani Grandal and a wild pitch by Kershaw that Grandal could have smothered.

Bumgarner struck out 10 without issuing a walk, though he hit two batters with pitches. LHP Julio Urias will pitch out of the bullpen during the Giants series. It was the eighth one-run game among 14 meetings between the rivals this season, with the teams winning four each.

The 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Dodgers encapsulated everything that has gone wrong for the Giants in 2016: anemic offense, questionable managerial decisions, poor luck and ultimately a blown lead in the 9th inning.
