The opening half was a back-and-forth affair which featured 10 lead changes. Mississippi State inched its way back into the game behind Newman, Ware and its 2-3 zone defense.
It was a much better showing for Mississippi State compared to the previous night, when the Bulldogs lost 105-79 to Miami.
Texas Tech would next face Minnesota, Tubby Smith’s old team, in the 5th place game.
