Spanish and Moroccan authorities, in a coordinated operation, have nabbed 10 persons with suspected links to the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

Four of the arrests, two men and two women, took place in Spain, while the remaining six detentions were in Casablanca. The group is notorious for its brutality and many human rights violations, as well as for recruiting people from all over the world via social networks.

Spain and Morocco joined forces on August 25 in another operation that saw 14 other alleged recruiters arrested.

The minister said there was also evidence the group had specialized in recruiting women for transport to areas controlled by IS.

Europe has been grappling with a growing number of extremist cells on its territory and radicalised Muslims leaving to fight for the Islamic State or joining the rebels in Iraq and Syria.

Jorge Fernandez Diaz recalled that Spain still has a 4-level anti-terrorist alert, noting that a total of 156 people were arrested in the different counter jihadist terrorism operations.
