Tendulkar, Ganguly & Laxman to interview for head coach of India
Newly-appointed Team India head coach Anil Kumble on Thursday thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) for showing faith in him. Kumble’s stint as a mentor with IPL teams such as Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians as well as his vast experience as an global cricketer might have tilted the scale in his favour.
The 45-year-old, however, had mentored Mumbai Indians to two IPL wins in 2013 and 2015.
The other candidates who were interviewed included Tom Moody, Stuart Law, Lalchand Rajput, Pravin Amre and Andy Moles.
India’s head coach post had been vacant since Shastri’s contract expired at the end of the World T20 earlier this year.
Last week, the BCCI had trimmed the list of 57 names to 21 but clarified that the advisory committee can be given the entire list if required. The decision of his selection was taken in the BCCI working committee meeting today in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.

“They shortlisted a few names, which were suggested to BCCI”. The legendary Kapil Dev coached the team before Wright. With 619 wickets, he is India’s highest Test wicket taker. We know the candidates, we’ve shortlisted the candidates but unfortunately I can not tell that to you. “Great things in store for Indian Cricket with you”. He said that the Indian team has got the best person, who has been a match-winner in his playing days. He led India in 14 matches, winning three, losing five and drawing six, until his retirement a year later. “There will be no conflict of interest when he takes over”, Shirke said. Hopefully, we will do it correctly this time, whoever it is. “The Board is confident that Mr. Kumble will meet the consistent high standards of professionalism set by the Indian team and fulfills the expectations of the followers of Indian Cricket”, it said.
