Tennessee at Alabama Preview

The offense had done just enough.

Derrick Henry capped a 19-14 comeback win for Alabama on Saturday with a 14-yard touchdown run to beat visiting rival Tennessee. “It goes in with the elements, the wind, the distance of the kick and the distance of whether it is fourth-and-2, fourth-and-3, and then what their fourth-down defense consists of”. That’s debatable. But regardless of how you feel about it, the Vols were competitive in all four quarters against the Tide for the first time in several years, and they’ve been competitive in every game this season.

Alabama has shaken off a September loss against Ole Miss and is nipping at LSU’s heels at 4-1 in the conference, in sole possessions of second place in the West (Alabama has one more win in the conference than Ole Miss currently).

Alabama will use this week to rest up on a bye before welcoming the LSU Tigers to Bryant-Denny Stadium on November 7. Well, play a few football these two did as they gave us the thriller of the weekend.

Alabama would add another field goal, but late in the game Tennessee took a 14-13 lead on a Jalen Hurd 12-yard rushing touchdown. Ridley made a leaping grab for a 15-yarder on third-and-6 from the Vols’ 40. Then he turned it over to Henry.

Tennessee drove into Alabama territory, but the drive stalled when Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster tackled Dobbs for a loss. The Tide’s A’Shawn Robinson plucked the ball out of mid-air and the Vols’ chances for a stunning upset went out the window.

Coker finished 21-of-27 passing for 247 yards with an interception. Stewart had six catches for 114 yards.

No. 7 Michigan State 52, Indiana 26: Connor Cook threw for 398 yards and four touchdowns for the Spartans. Hurd gained 92 yards on 18 carries.

With the 19-14 victory today, Alabama has now won the last nine matchups against the Tennessee Volunteers.

The Vols wound up with their fourth loss by a touchdown or less. Sean White was fine – completing 19-of-32 passes for 254 yards – but it was Peyton Barber who controlled the offense.

In two seasons at Alabama, Tenpenny rushed for 218 yards and a touchdown on 48 attempts.

Medley’s career-long of 46 yards was at Georgia last season. “The only way we could lose the game was to fumble the ball”. Lane Kiffin, Derek Dooley and Mike Hamilton all left the Tennessee football program in shambles – and now Jones is placing stability, talent, depth, and competing in meaningful games into the Tennessee program.

The Wildcats are coming off of a 42-16 road loss to Mississippi State.

And even though he has had a frustrating season thus far, Jones says Medley is in no danger of losing his job any time soon. Instead, it settled for three Gary Wunderlich field goals in the second quarter.

No. 25 Pittsburg 23, Syracuse 20: A fake punt for a first down helped set up Chris Blewitt’s 25-yard field goal on the final play of the game. “The thing I like about him is that he really worked an edge”.

Malachi Dupre caught a 55-yard scoring pass on LSU’s opening series.
