Tennessee dismisses Howard for violation of team rules
“It’s all about choices and decisions”.

“That’s between the student-athlete and ourselves”, Jones said. Regardless of what rule(s) he violated, Howard has let down his team, his coach, his family, and his fans. Of the two games he’s played, he’s caught one pass for eight yards and two rushing attempts for 13. The senior wide receiver finished his career with 112 receptions – tied for 12th all-time in program history – for 1,068 yards and five touchdowns. Marquez North has also battled injuries since fall camp and Jason Croom has been sidelined since December. The Vols rank 11th in the SEC in passing with 192.8 yards per game. Three months ago, there was only a small contingent of Vols fans who had anything negative to say about the coach. Tennessee247’s Wes Rucker talked with several Tennessee players about the dismissal and documented their reactions.
The school announced Tuesday that classes would be canceled for the entire week (via The State) and that the game would be played as scheduled, but AD Ray Tanner said they were looking at alternatives if it came to that. He missed the Vols’ last two games because of a concussion.
The wide receiver position has been somewhat of a revolving door early in the 2015 season. Howard was a darling in 2013 and 2014, leading the team in receiving. He instead rejoined the team for summer workouts and went on to be Tennessee’s most consistent receiver in 2014.
Tennessee’s offense has looked like its been missing one piece all season.
As Howard has struggled to stay in the lineup, the Vols have found receiving replacements in Ethan Wolf, Preston Williams and Josh Malone.
A few may argue that a player’s dismissal diverts distraction. “I’ve got a lot to focus on for myself”. The team faces an opponent that is heavily favored to win its division and is coming off a blowout loss to Alabama.
