A Tennessee couple went on NBC’s “Today” show on Friday and claimed they have one of the three winning Powerball jackpot tickets.
Meanwhile, a couple went on NBC’s “Today” show to claim they have a winning Powerball ticket that was sold in Munford, Tennessee.
Fighting back tears, Lisa Robinson said she never hoped to win the big lottery prize but rather the five numbers that would lead to a million dollar prize that would let her and her husband John pay off their daughter’s student loans and other debts.
“Why did you guys come to us first?”, Savannah Guthrie asked John and Lisa Robinson.
The pair said they were in disbelief when the lottery numbers were read and checked them dozens of times.
Florida Lottery officials are still waiting for the victor of the jackpot to come forward.
They bought four tickets at a local market on their way home before the drawing Wednesday night.
But John Robinson and his wife, Lisa, said they won’t stop working and won’t make any wild purchases.
“I’ve never wanted that in the past”. Neither plans to quit their job and both said they will return to work Monday.
The winning Powerball numbers drawn Wednesday night were: 8, 27, 34, 4, 19 and the Powerball of 10.
Three mystery winners from Florida, Tennessee and California will split the unprecedented $1.6 billion Powerball jackpot. There was one $100,000 victor and 17 $50,000 winners, lottery officials said. They planned to go to Tennessee lottery officials after appearing on TODAY. The identity of the victor is not yet known. But they did snap their photo holding the oversized US$1 million cheque at lottery headquarters in the “Winners Lounge:”.
“I’m very proud that the ticket was sold here”, the clerk, M. Faroqui, told the Sun.
After learning of the Robinsons’ claim, Cole told the AP on Friday that they are not the kind of family to squander their money. The couple said that they would drive back to Tennessee to cash in their ticket immediately after the interview.
“I think it’s awesome because were Munford proud”, Rebecca Dockery said. The Observer reports Reddit users are claiming he Photoshopped the picture as a publicity stunt, but USA Today confirms Bragg is indeed from Chino Hills, where a winning ticket was sold.
The Robinsons said they are taking the lump sum, which is $328 million.
Tiffany said she also wants a horse.
