Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) websites DraftKings and FanDuel have reached an agreement with Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange to cease operations in the state, after the AG’s office declared the fairly new practice to constitute illegal gambling last month.

Wasden said in a news release that the online sport contest, where fans bet on players’ performances, is considered illegal gambling in Idaho. The companies will monitor players in Idaho based on geoblocking technology or through IP addresses.

The new Tennessee law gives DFS operators such as DraftKings and FanDuel until July 1st to decide whether or not they wish to become licensed by the state and thus subject to new regulation laws.

“It goes back to the gambling thing for Alabama and I would vote yes on gambling in Alabama as well”, Delaurier added.

“I have a duty to enforce and uphold that law”. The Idaho Constitution bans gambling except for the state lottery, pari-mutuel betting as well as bingo and raffle games. After a three-month-long negotiation, the companies agreed to block online Idaho contestants from participating starting this month. The daily fantasy sports operations violate state law because a player stakes something of value on a contest of chance in order to win a prize.

The sites could continue offering free-to-play contests in the state.

The agreement is not “an admission of liability or evidence of wrongdoing” by DraftKings or FanDuel. As has always been the case, users in Idaho can withdraw their funds at any time. “DraftKings is working with lawmakers across the country to enact fantasy sports legislation, so that our loyal fans can continue to enjoy the games they love”.

Fantasy sports has been challenged, most notably in NY, in 11 states, and there are also five states that have banned it completely: Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana and Washington.
