Tennessee reinstates wide receiver Von Pearson

Good news for Vol fans, as standout WR Von Pearson has been reinstated to the football team after being cleared of rape charges this week. A spokeswoman for the university confirmed that Pearson is eligible to re-enroll in fall term classes.

Tennessee announced on the football team’s official Twitter account Friday afternoon that Pearson had been reinstated.

On Wednesday, the Knox County district attorney’s office announced Pearson wouldn’t be charged in connection to the case, citing insufficient evidence. Tennessee coach Butch Jones and Coffey had said that Pearson also was suspended from school.

The addition of Pearson will boost an already elite squad of receivers the Volunteers plan to unleash on the SEC this season.

Pearson caught 38 passes for 393 yards and a team-high five touchdowns in 2014.

The senior wideout had been suspended since April 24, when he was named a suspect in an alleged rape that occurred two nights before Tennessee’s spring game.
