Tens of thousands pack Wembley Stadium for rally to welcome Indian Prime

Addressing a massive gathering of the British-Indian Community at’ New Delhi: Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today said India’s vast diversity is its speciality, pride and strength. “We will cross new frontiers of development”, Modi said.

The papers also carried stories about decision to strike deals worth nine billion pounds and his various engagements during the day, including an address in parliament house.

The visiting Prime Minister said “expense by British corporations in India will be a win win relationship for both places”, the state statement said. “Now in Britain, we have a few big ambitions too and I know in our mission to deliver that strong economy”, he said.

Modi said, “You are the true ambassadors of India. We want railways with good convenience”, he added.

But when Modi was asked whether Britain should remain in the EU, in a referendum called by Cameron and being held by the end of 2017, Modi said: “As far as India is concerned, if there is an entry point to the European Union, that is the United Kingdom”.

Later, Modi was greeted as a celebrity by tens of thousands of supporters waving Indian flags and Union Jacks during a high-energy rally at London’s Wembley Stadium – more usually home to rock concerts and England’s national soccer team.

He also backed India’s claim for permanent membership in the UN Security Council. “From December 15, there will be direct flights between London and Ahmedabad”, Modi said in his much-awaited address to 60,000 wildly cheering British Indians at the iconic Wembley Stadium.

Modi presented the Queen a few award-winning Darjeeling tea from Makaibari tea estate in West Bengal and fine organic honey from J&K.

On Saturday, the Indian prime minister visited the plant of Tata subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover, India’s flagship investment in Britain, before emplaning for Turkey.
