Tensions high as Texans and Redskins brawl during joint practice

After the last round of fights, the coaches pulled their respective teams together and, after a quick talk, the Redskins and Texans practiced on separate fields.

Redskins wide receiver Andre Roberts said, “It was our last day [of joint practice], and we all wanted to set the tempo, and it got a little too physical for practice out there, and so people got frustrated”.

Hall added: “I think the young guy [Jones] was just trying to protect himself, he was just running the ball and the guy came in front of him and he wasn’t supposed to stop”.

Washington posted a clip of the ruckus on Twitter, saying its players were “getting fired up for the season”. I wouldn’t either. All that matters is no one was injured and that this type of thing doesn’t happen during the regular season when players would automatcially get hit with a suspension from the NFL league office. Another fight also featured Baker and Texans center Ben Jones.

But August 6, they got to gauge his progress by seeing how he fared against Watt, who many consider to be the best pass rusher in the NFL.

“It’s football, things like that are going to happen”, Jackson said.

The joint practice sessions are free and open to the public and could provide a boost in attendance for a training camp which has seen smaller turnout than years past. We’re all men. We’re in camp going against each other all the time.

“Your teammates fight, you don’t want to see that”, Redskins fullback Darrel Young said. He let his team know that in a real game suspensions would have resulted.

CBS Sports, who has video of the fight, says the brawl may have began because the Texans are too intense or because the Redskins were not. “Nobody is out there to hurt anybody”. “Obviously, he can play tackle, but I think guard is probably more of his natural position, and we look at him to be a great addition to the [offensive] line”. “I always say, and it’s the absolute truth, when I watch the film I click over the good plays real fast. But that happened and we’ve just got to move on”. “Every rookie is going to have their rookie lows, but he recognized it, and he went and worked hard on it – studied his butt off – and it’s starting to pay off”. I started with a couple of blogs of my own but then realized that I could reach a much larger audience by guest posting on established websites instead.
