Unfounded reports of shots fired at New York’s main airport triggered scenes of panic, massive evacuations and huge delays late Sunday, August 14.

Reports of gunshots being fired at John F Kennedy Airport in NY triggered scenes of chaos before police confirmed there was no evidence of a shooting.

There was no confirmation of an actual shooter.

Terminals are expected to resume operations shortly, according to Wedin.

There are now no injuries, no arrests and no confirmation of shots fired. “Preliminary investigation does not indicate shots were fired at JFK”, the Port Authority said in a follow-up statement.

“More evacuations and running out of terminal that Lufthansa is in, cop cars speeding over there, people running every direction”, Liston posted on Twitter.

The NYPD has closed the street surrounding the JFK area.

The reports indicated the shots were fired near the departure area, said Port Authority police spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

Seward was taken to the end of the tarmac at Terminal 1 with “a few hundred other people”. Local media reported that the police are now investigating into the incident.

“If you’re forgetting anything it’s not worth your life, everyone move now!” one officer yelled.

Travelers said word spread quickly through the terminals about the possible gunfire.
