Terminally ill country singer tells husband what to do when she’s gone

Joey and Julie became close friends around eight years ago at the first Bib & Buckle Festival, an outdoor concert that brings together fans in the residence of the Feeks.

As Joey Martin Feek approaches the end of her life, she’s been sharing precious memories and reminders with her family. As Julie Zamboldi packed her suitcase Joey Feek began to weep.

Rory continued, “Selfishly, I hope the whole world gets to discover what an incredible singer and woman my handsome wife is, and that her music outlives not only the both of us, but also our children’s children’s children”.

The couple have one daughter together, not-quite-2-year-old IN, and Rory has two daughters, Heidi, 29, and Hopie, 27, that Joey has helped raise since the couple married.

“And now here I sit by my dying wife”. As a true friend, she was always there with the Feek family during the cancer battle and even chopped her hair to support Joey, who lost her hair due to the cancer treatment.

Rather than catching her original flight out of Indianapolis on Saturday, Julie stayed behind instead to “be with her best friend”. “And as God would have it, the tables have turned and not it’s easy to see…Joey and I are Julie’s biggest fans”.

Joey was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in June of 2015, and after an arduous battle, she chose to discontinue her treatments after doctors told her there was nothing more they could do.

Rory Feek wrote at that time: “When we got home and the news finally sank in, Joey only anxious about one thing”.

Meanwhile, Rory’s been updating on his blog about his wife health update from her hometown of Alexandria, Indiana, where she is in hospice.

Like she did that day in August at the hospital in Atlanta when Joey was starting chemo, I think our baby is continuing to cheer her mama on in her fight – the best way she knows how…

The husband-and-wife duo are set to release a new album, Hymns That Are Important to Us, in February, and Rory Feek says that the project will be not only the last for him and his wife, but his last as an artist as well.
