Terror groups working in tandem in Karachi: ISPR

Bajwa said 97 people had been arrested in various raids, including senior members of both al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent (Aqis) and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), a Sunni supremacist group responsible for many massacres of Shias and which allegedly was once close to Pakistan’s intelligence establishment.

“The whole of world is praising military operation Zarb-e-Azb”, he said.

“Of the three major gangs busted, two, including Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and al Qaeda (sub continent), were collaborating with the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)”.

However, Bajwa warned citizens to cautious of their surroundings and not become facilitators of terrorists unknowingly.

“It is a commitment of the Army Chief and Army with the Karachiites to fully restore the status of the metropolis as the city of lights”.

DG ISPR hoped, “Total peace will be restored in Karachi”.

The same group was involved in the planning. “Recoveries include machines to grind explosives and make explosive material, vehicles, ball bearings, police and military uniforms, backpacks and communication equipment”, he said.

The perpetrators had prepared two explosive-laden vans which they were supposed to ram into the gate of the prison, Bajwa said, adding the militants had also prepared a list of 35 prisoners they wanted to kill, while rescuing hundreds including Omar Sheikh.

Meanwhile, three suspects Naeem Bukhari, Musanna and Sabir Khan, who planned the Hyderabad jailbreak were presented under the custody of security forces during the press conference.

He said Karachi operation was commenced in Sept 2013 at a time when criminality, targeted killing and kidnapping for ransom were at their peak.
