He said that from this attack it is clear that the terrorist in India are supported by people sitting across the border and added that today’s incident indicates that we need to prepare to tackle such situations in future.

The DGMO of Pakistan refuted as unfounded and premature the Indian allegation and asked his Indian counterpart to share any actionable intelligence in this regard. “Pointing fingers at Pakistan has become a traditional tendency of India after each terrorist attack”, the Dawn quoted Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria as saying.

Singh said the gunmen were carrying “some items that had Pakistani markings”. India has said it gave Pakistan evidence of the group’s involvement in an assault on an Indian air force base in January, in which seven Indian personnel were killed. “At both these places, the militants managed to enter military camps and this is a huge security lapse”, he said.

Considering the counter statement made by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and union Home minister Rajnath Singh against Pakistan clearly suggest the government’s stand in response to Uri attacks.

India’s Home Affairs Minister Rajnath Singh called an emergency meeting with his senior officials and announced via Twitter that he was postponing visits to Russian Federation and the United States to deal with the situation.

“In the past many Indians were involved in the terrorist acts for which India had blamed Pakistan”, he asserted.

India accuses Pakistan of training the militants in its territory, then helping them to infiltrate into the Indian side. Islamabad has consistently denied this charge.

U.S. State Department spokesman John Kirby said the United States “strongly” condemns the attack.

The last attack of this scale on the Indian army was in June 2015 in Manipur, north-east India, when at least 20 soldiers were killed in an attack on a troop convoy. A sweeping military crackdown and near-constant curfew have been in effect since the protests began.

Indian-administered Kashmir has been gripped by unrest for more than two months, with protests that have prompted authorities to issue curfews and lock down large parts of the region.

The raid is likely to further sour ties between the nuclear-armed neighbours given the high death toll and heightened tensions in the Occupied Kashmir following weeks of deadly clashes between residents and security forces.
