And the newly fan-owned County have wasted little time in addressing their on-the-pitch problems by confirming they had “parted company” with Butcher with immediate effect with the team bottom of the Football League.

That defeat was the final straw for the club’s board who have made a decision to replace Butcher and look to bring in a new man to transform their fortunes.

Butcher took over at Rodney Parade in April but has seen his side win just one of their opening 10 matches this season – a 1-0 victory away to Carlisle last weekend.
