Tesla confirms 100-kWh battery, 0-60 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds
The new battery option will extend the range of the Model S to 315 miles per charge, making it the first electric vehicle on the market to exceed 300 miles of range.

Tesla says this makes it the third fastest accelerating production vehicle ever, second only to the limited-run LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder two-seaters (neither of which you can buy new today).
The dizzying performance, which comes courtesy of a new, 100-kilowatt-hour battery, will also extend the Model S’s EPA range to 315 miles on a single charge. According to the post, existing owners of P90D who have not taken delivery can upgrade to the new auto by paying $10,000 extra.
It’s not like this news was a secret about Tesla Motors offering a 100-kwh battery pack for two of their models.
“Looking at the bigger picture here, it’s just wonderful that an electric vehicle is now the fastest auto in production in the world”, Musk said on a call with reporters.
SAN FRANCISCO -Tesla Motors Chief Executive Elon Musk held a news conference Tuesday to announce the company had shaved a few tenths of a second off its fastest vehicle.
With Ludicrous Mode the Model X P90D has a 0-100km/h time of 3.4 seconds and a 467km driving range. That’s compared to the 253 mile range offered by Tesla’s current battery, the P90D.
“The Model S and Model X P100D with Ludicrous mode are available to order now”.
Otherwise, the new P100D models are expected to start at $134,500.
The new Model S features a 100-kWh battery pack, which allows it to accelerate to 60 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds. However, if owners have already used their cars, they will have to cough up $20,000 (Rs. 13,42,300).

Not only will the McLaren trail the Model S, it will also be three-tenths slower to 60mph than the Model S P100D’s equally all-wheel-drive sister vehicle, the Model X SUV – again with Ludicrous mode.
