At present, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating a Model S crash, in which the driver lost his life while operating his Tesla auto on autopilot system.

Tesla’s autopilot now issues safety reminders on the dashboard to users while they are driving. The company has reportedly raised the price by $500 to $3,000 if the software is added before vehicle delivery and $3,500 if the software is added after the delivery of the auto.
Like advanced safety features found in many newer cars, Autopilot uses cameras, radars and sensors to speed up, slow down and even steer the vehicles.
The upgraded system “will have to be smarter and more capable of recognizing its surroundings”, said Karl Brauer, an analyst at Kelley Blue Book.
This may sound simple to human drivers, but it demonstrates how Autopilot will allegedly soon be able to deal with being surrounded by vehicles moving at vastly different speeds (when joining a new motorway), and navigate interchange corners, which are often tighter than any on the motorway itself.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted that the company plans to release an updated version of its controversial Autopilot program. On Thursday, he postponed the announcement until the “end of weekend”. The company also lost $568 million on an adjusted bases in the first half of this year and lost $889 million last year. In the meantime, in preparation for the low-cost Tesla Model 3 – priced at $35,000 before incentives – the electric vehicle maker is retooling its factory in Fremont, California.
The blast sent shares of Tesla down to over 5% and SolarCity Corp (NASDAQ:SCTY) stock to just over 9% on Thursday.
Tesla recently completed a $1.7 billion equity raise and likely needs to issue more shares if a SolarCity merger takes place.

Subsequent to June 30, 2016, Tesla has received notices of conversion from holders of approximately $422 million in aggregate principal amount of Tesla’s convertible senior notes due 2018 (“2018 Notes”), which conversions require Tesla to repay the principal amount in cash.
