Tesla: ‘Hubris’ to blame for Model X delivery delays

The parts shortages were limited to a half-dozen items in a vehicle with more than 8,000 pieces.

Musk posted the total Sunday on Twitter.

“While in the grand scheme of the “idea” of Tesla, the “miss” doesn’t matter much, it may stop the stock’s recent positive momentum in the wake of Model 3 excitement”, RBC analyst Joseph Spak said in a note.

Meanwhile, General Motors will start selling the Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle at the end of this year with a similar price and a 200-mile range. Long lines at Tesla stores, reminiscent of the crowds at Apple stores for early models of the iPhone, were reported from Hong Kong to Austin, Texas, to Washington, D.C. Buyers put down a $1,000 deposit to reserve the vehicle.

Just like its predecessor, the Tesla Model 3 will have the all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive versions. “Even RWD will have great traction on ice due to fast torque response of Tesla drivetrain”. In response to a tweet saying that the Model 3 needs a better designed front-end, Mr Musk replied saying that there’s “some tweaking underway”. Whether Tesla can actually hit those numbers is yet to be seen. Once Model 3 production begins, those who reserved a auto will receive a purchase agreement indicating the purchase price of the vehicle as well as other details.

“If you proceed with the order, we will apply your Reservation Payment towards the order payment”, the reservation agreement reads.

As for the specs, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Tesla Model 3, priced at $35,000, will run 215 miles in one charge.

Tesla says it delivered 14,820 electric cars between the beginning of January and the end of March.

Tesla has frequently humble-bragged about its quest for perfection with the Model X, which sports unusual features such as falcon-winged doors and an oversize, panoramic windshield, and has blamed the X’s engineering intricacies for the delays it has experienced with the SUV.

It has raised doubts about how prepared Tesla will be to deliver its new Model 3 auto which was announced to much fanfare last week. Several states, including MI, have outlawed the practice.

Tesla’s new electric auto “Model 3” is breaking sales records.

Michigan Secretary of State spokesman Fred Woodhams last week told The Detroit News that the applications remain under review while the state requests additional information.
