Tesla Improves Range, Acceleration With New Vehicle Options
Announcing the upgrade Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk says that the new battery pack offers a substantial range increase between charges – to around 315 miles, by far the longest range offered on an electric production vehicle.

Equipped with the new battery, the Model S P100D can go from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds, making it the third fastest auto ever produced according to Tesla.
The new battery pack is also available for the performance version of the Model X sport utility vehicle.
Tesla claims that its Model S P100D is the fastest production vehicle in the world and that too in terms of acceleration.
The company says the Model S P100D sedan can reach 60 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds using “Ludicrous mode”.
The new version of Tesla’s vehicle does not come cheap. Notably, only other cars faster than the Model S P100D Ludicrous are no longer on sale and cost over $1 million.
Prices for the Model S P100D and Model X P100D – which Tesla said will ship “as early as next month”, depending on location – will start at $135,500 and $135,500, respectively.
The third-fastest accelerating production auto ever made is an electric, four-door sedan, according to Tesla Motors.
However, as Tesla’s blog was quick to point out, both cars are limited editions unlike the Model S, which is a production vehicle. The vehicle now has the longest range of any electric auto ever created by a wide margin.
The larger battery pack is also available on the Model X, making the SUV even faster. Folks who already own the P90D can also upgrade, but for a pricier $20,000 that covers battery recycling costs. Those who ordered a P90D Ludicrous, but haven’t received it yet, can upgrade for $10,000.

“Without customers willing to buy the expensive Model S and X, we would be unable to fund the smaller, more affordable Model 3 development”, the statement said.
