Tesla issues voluntary recall on Model X for faulty hinge

Tesla is voluntarily recalling roughly 2,700 new Model X SUVS for recently discovered issues with its third-row seat backs possibly folding forward in collisions. The company wrote that, during the test, “the recliner in a third row Model X seat unexpectedly slipped”.

Owners of the Tesla Model X were alerted to the car’s first recall notice today, and it’s one they may want to take care to follow. The automaker says that all vehicles produced before March 26th are affected or about 2,700 units.

In November previous year, Tesla announced a recall of its Model S vehicles due to a seatbelt issue, understood to have affected 90,000 vehicles globally.

The third-row seats in the seven-seat vehicle, Tesla said, were built with latches that failed under safety testing.

While this is the first recall for the Model X, it’s not unique for Tesla, which has seen multiple recalls for its Model S sedan and its Roadster. The stock had climbed 77 percent since a February low, obvious thanks goes to the Model 3 revealing.

Therefore it’s a little odd that the Model S is set to be refreshed for 2017 with a face redesigned to look like the other two Tesla vehicles – at least that’s what the rumor is.

A new front fascia, adaptive LED headlamps, some new interior finishes, and the availability of an air-filtration system that’s similar to what’s available on the Model X SUV.

Tesla pointed out there have been no reports of the flaw from customers, neither did the issue appear during strength tests in North America. The occupants on the third-row seats will be at risk of more injuries or even fatality. Your service center will contact you to schedule the installation of your replacement seat backs as soon as they are available. And this week, to keep up the buzz, Tesla unveiled a mid-cycle refresh to the Model S sedan, giving the growing model lineup an added shot in the arm. Tesla said it hopes to complete all replacements over the next five weeks.
