Tesla just announced faster cars with longer range

It can now go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds. However, both the LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder were limited run, million dollar vehicles and can not be bought new.

However, as Tesla’s blog was quick to point out, both cars are limited editions unlike the Model S, which is a production auto. Tesla claims the new range topper is the longest-range production electric vehicle by far. Notably, only other cars faster than the Model S P100D Ludicrous are no longer on sale and cost over $1 million.

Customers waiting on their 2016 Tesla Model S P90D Ludicrous can upgrade to the 100-kwh pack for an added $10,000, and the Model S P100D starts at $134,500 after tax breaks.

The company said Tuesday that a new battery will allow its Model S to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds – making it the fastest production auto in the world. But it’s not so insane to have an electric vehicle that can go 315 miles on a charge.

This essentially means that an all-electric vehicle is now the fastest production auto in the world.

Existing P90D can opt for the larger battery if they’ve got $20,000 laying around. But with the 100 kWh battery pack, it said the Model X P100D – as the new performance model is known – will now accelerate from 0 to 97 kph in 2.9 seconds. It sports a 100-kWh battery that will increase range to an estimated 315 miles, Tesla’s first to go beyond 300 miles.

Prices for the Model S P100D and Model X P100D – which Tesla said will ship “as early as next month”, depending on location – will start at $135,500 and $135,500, respectively.

The Model X P100D, which can seat up to seven adults, sees its range extended to 289 miles and with Ludicrous mode, it can zip from 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds.
