Tesla Model 3: Elon Musk unveils highly-anticipated ‘affordable’ electric auto
The Tesla Model 3 was shown off by Elon Musk, where its specs and pricing were revealed. It’s worth remembering that this is only for the basic package, and so there will be other modes offering an extended Tesla Model 3 range, and also increased performance. We’re in for a real treat for that $35,000 price when it finally begins shipping in late 2017.

Musk’s speech must have done the trick, as more than 115,000 Model 3s were pre-ordered in the first 24 hours they were available.
Tesla Motors said that the Model 3 is the next logical step of Tesla’s “secret master plan” and mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
Musk was mum on the Model 3’s horsepower, torque, interior or exterior dimensions, or even what the maximum range would be on higher trim levels at launch.
I’m really not sure what to say at the end of this post, because I’m so blown away. The Model S and Model X sell for a base price of $76,000 and $132,000 respectively, while the Roadster sells for $101,000. By then, the company claims that there will be about 7,200 Superchargers, or charging stations for Tesla’s electric vehicles, established across the country, which is double the number of Superchargers today. The Fremont, Calif. factory where Tesla builds its cars used to produce almost half a million cars a year when it was owned by General Motors and Toyota, he said, so it should have no trouble meeting Tesla’s needs for this third model.

The Tesla Model 3 is said to be 20% smaller than the Model S, which puts it in the compact executive sedan crowd, where the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4 reside. The frunk (front trunk) and trunk both should be pretty big. The company is now taking pre-orders for a $1,000 reservation price. The success of Tesla’s Gigafactory, its battery factory near completion in Nevada, is also contingent on the Model 3.
