Tesla Model 3 Reservations Exceed 325000

Tesla received more than 276,000 orders for the lower-priced vehicle in just 48 hours – a number which Musk himself was surprised by.

With one week having passed since the Model 3’s launch, Tesla has gotten over 320,000 pre-orders for the affordable new electric sedan. At a starting price of $35,000 before federal and state government incentives the Model 3 is less than half the cost of Tesla’s previous models.

In the company’s official blog, it stated that the overwhelming response for the Model 3 makes it “the single biggest one-week launch of any product ever”. The company hasn’t even advertised the Model 3 or paid for any endorsements for it, it’s all achieved from customer driven interest.

Eager consumers have waited in long lines for the Tesla Model 3.

Many commenters are pointing out that Tesla is the Apple of the automotive industry after the first unveiling of the 2017 Tesla Model 3 that opened pre-order floodgates.

Inside, it’s got room for five adults and a tablet-style infotainment screen, plus a large glass roof and technology which includes the semi-autonomous autopilot feature introduced on the Model S. The pre-orders stood over 325,000 which is roughly $14 billion in implied future sales.

The company had previously forecast 16,000 deliveries in the quarter.

That’s how many vehicle buyers plunked down (refundable) deposits of about $1,000 in the first week that Tesla began taking them, the company said.

Its most recent vehicle, the “falcon-wing” Model X SUV, was expected to arrive mid 2014, but was only delivered to customers in late 2015. The video below shows Model 3s parked at Tesla’s Supercharging station and driving around in public.

Some analysts agree that Tesla might be able to deliver if the new model doesn’t involve a complicated design that would require more production time.
