Tesla Model 3 Sales: Not Too Shabby

In the seven days since the company introduced its $35,000 Model 3, the electric-vehicle maker booked 325,000 reservations, according to the company.

That figure implies about $14 billion in future sales, achieved without paid advertising or endorsements, Tesla said. The Model 3 launch is the company’s biggest single one-week launch ever. Tesla wrote at the end of its blog post.

Tesla recently unveiled its newest vehicle, the Model 3, but it also has a brand new refresh for the Model S coming.

Inside, it’s got room for five adults and a tablet-style infotainment screen, plus a large glass roof and technology which includes the semi-autonomous autopilot feature introduced on the Model S. Now, one week after that event, Tesla has reported over 325,000 pre-orders (aka reservations).

CEO Elon Musk says on Twitter Thursday that the number is still rising.

In a statement, Tesla said: “We are all taking a huge step towards a better future by accelerating the transition to sustainable transportation”.

If Tesla gets hit by production hiccups and keeps delaying the Model 3 like the Model S and Model X before it, then we’ll see plenty of withdrawals.

Tesla is expected to expand its production base beyond its current plant in Fremont, California as it builds more of the Model 3, which is priced at about half the level of its first two models.

The company also indicated its intention to increase its production plans for the Model 3.

The amount of interest in the Model 3, Tesla’s first truly affordable vehicle, is even more impressive considering each customer had to put down a $1,000 deposit before making their order.

Die-hard Tesla fans will be able to reserve a new Tesla Model 3 next week, and the company has outlined exact reservation times and prices. The question lingers after the dragged-out launch of Tesla’s Model X SUV late past year took longer than people might have anticipated.
