According to Tesla figures, the Model 3 can go up to 346km on one single charge and has supercharging that recharges the lithium-ion battery pack – located under the floor – in much less time.

Tesla had a running counter at Thursday evening’s event displaying the number of pre-orders with deposits, and when I left the event, it already was pushing 140,000 Model 3 reservations. The Model 3 offers two storage compartments in the front and rear areas, and can comfortably fit up to five adults.
If Elon Musk can deliver the Model 3 on time – and at the prices quoted – he could be on to a victor, and Tesla are gearing up for big demand with their new Gigafactory to produce more batteries a year than every other battery maker combined.

Fulfilling its sales targets for the Model 3 of around 500,000 vehicles per year will be an enormous challenge for Tesla, however.

In February, Tesla said it would start generating positive cash flow this month.
