When Tesla announced that its new Model X SUV came with a “Bioweapon Defense Mode”, it perplexed some vehicle enthusiasts.

What they did was they stuck the Model X inside a large bubble and filled it with extreme levels of pollution, which is 1,000 µg/m3 of PM2.5 vs. the EPA’s “good” air quality index limit of 12 µg/m3.
Wearing gas masks, Tesla employees got into the vehicle then shut the doors and turned on the Bioweapon Defense Mode massive HEPA filters. Daimler chairman Dieter Zetsche has said that Tesla made a lot of promises at the beginning but managed to live up to them.
Now Bioweapon Defense Mode sounds a bit gimmicky at first, and what initially comes to mind is some sort of technology out of a sci-fi or James Bond movie. In other words, the hacker can introduce Ludicrous Mode for the Model 3 that can benefit those that purchase the basic model.
Earlier, the air filtration system was also put to the test in real-world environments; from California freeways during rush hour, to smelly marshes, landfills, and cow pastures in the central valley of California, to major cities in China. To really drive the point home though, Tesla set up an experiment to really show just what the Tesla Bioweapon Defense mode can really do.
The last update on the number of reservations for the Model 3 came from Elon Musk when he said that Tesla received “some 400,000 pre-orders” during a meeting last month.
