Tesla recalls 2.7K Model X SUVs for potential seat malfunction
In an email sent to Tesla owners, the company says the recall is voluntary and that there have been “no reports of a third row seat slipping in any customer vehicles”.

Tesla is voluntarily recalling 2,700 of its Model X vehicles over a flaw in the third-row seat that may be risky in an accident.
The issue affects Model X crossovers built before March 26 of this year, amounting to about 2,700 vehicles. Starting today, all Model S vehicles that come from the company’s Fremont, CA plant will sport a new grille-less front fascia and some other tweaks, bringing its design in line with Tesla’s newer Model X and Model 3 cars. “But consistent with Tesla’s approach, we’re erring on the side of putting our customers’ safety first”.
Some 2700 Model Xs are affected by the recall, a number which would likely be higher if Tesla wasn’t already struggling to meet production targets.
Problem: Third row recliner’s locking hinge can slip during crash.
Tesla has acknowledged bumpy production over the first few months for the Model X due to technical challenges with its “falcon-wing” doors, a panoramic windshield and moveable seats. The good news for Tesla is that since Futuris is handling the cost of replacement, it won’t have any financial impact on the company.
The recall stems from an issue involving the Model X’s third-row seats.
However, that’s not the only thing that Tesla borrowed from the Model X for the Model S upgrade.

Multiple media outlets reported Tuesday that Tesla has given its Model S everything from a facelift to new hardware and even a couple of more efficient features. Further, the company asserts its Model X and Model 3 will also be rated five stars in every category when tested by NHTSA. “There have been no issues with any failures in the field”. Customers will not have to pay for the two-hour procedure to replace the third-row back seats, neither will Tesla. Your service center will contact you to schedule the installation of your replacement seat backs as soon as they are available.
