Tesla has revised the Model S and added a larger battery pack which gives the auto jaw-dropping acceleration and a longer range on full charge.
The cars which hold the number one and two spots-the LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder, respectively-were limited run, million dollar vehicles.
Of course, all this speed won’t come cheap.
The Model X P100D crossover has a zero-to-60 time of 2.9 seconds. It also offers a range of 380 miles to a single charge, under the European test cycle – up from 316 miles for the P90D.
The P100D Ludicrous upgrade costs $US10,000 ($13,131) for customers who have ordered a P90D Ludicrous but haven’t taken delivery, or $US20,000 for owners who already have that vehicle type.

CEO Elon Musk said during a press briefing that the battery would be available for any cars with a “Ludicrous Mode” option included. With the new range, driver would be able to travel from San Francisco to Los Angeles without recharging. The new 100kWh battery uses the same cell technology, but Tesla executives have teased the advancements in the battery pack technology being a leap in itself.
With the Ludicrous mode upgrade, the P100D is able to accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in an astonishing 2.5 seconds. Musk says that it is pushing the theoretical limit of what they can get out of the existing battery design. In the case of Model S, auto owners can travel an estimated 315 miles on the EPA cycle and 613 km on the European Union cycle by upgrading their batteries.

Musk has also affirmed that Model S and X vehicles with the upgraded batteries will help funding the more affordable Model 3, which is still in development.
