Tesla says its P100D is the world’s drag king

History books have been rewritten once again as Tesla can lay claim to the new Model S P100D being not only the quickest production auto in the world, but the third-fastest accelerating ever.

The new 100 kWh battery increases range to 315 miles and 289 miles for the Model S and X respectively, making it the longest range production electric auto.

Current owners of the earlier Tesla Model S P90D can upgrade to the new 100 kWh battery for $20,000.

On Tuesday, Tesla announced new versions of its luxury cars that break major barriers for electric vehicles.

“While the P100D Ludicrous is obviously an expensive vehicle”, Tesla explains, “we want to emphasise that every sale helps pay for the smaller and much more affordable Tesla Model 3 that is in development”.

The Model X P100D can achieve a 0-60 time of just 2.9 seconds and will have a range of 289 miles on a single charge.

Not that you’d need it to take the kids to soccer, but the Model X’s top model, the P100D in Ludicrous mode, can get from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 3.1 seconds.

If you’re interested in straight line performance, then the Model S P100D will be capable of reaching 60mph from a standing start in 2.5sec – making it the quickest new auto now on sale.

It’s not just the Model S benefitting from this bigger battery, it’s also available on the Model X. He now owns a Tesla Roadster which he got back in 2010 and reserved his Model X back in 2012.

An orthopaedic surgeon in the USA was recently involved in a vehicle accident along with his family when his Tesla Model X was hit by a GMC truck at over 72 kmph.

These both cars are more expensive than the Tesla Model S P100D which starts at $135,000 approximately.

Tesla has given out the pricing details for the new battery pack.

Tesla may already have helped innovate the future of motor vehicles, but the company is not sitting pretty with Elon Musk behind it.

The aforementioned acceleration figure has made the Model S the third fastest auto in the world, just a whisker behind the Ferrari LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder.

The Tesla Model S 100D and Model X 100D have been confirmed for production, with both cars getting extended battery ranges thanks to new 100kWh battery packs.

“If [Musk] thinks he can sell incrementally more cars with incrementally better range and power, then that’s an incremental improvement for the company”, he added.

The cells are the same, Musk said on a call for journalists before the announcement went public, but cooling and internal support structures have been modified to permit higher performance.
