Tesla Shares Fall as Deliveries Miss Target Again

As per the information, the autopilot engaged Tesla vehicle was on a divided road when the tractor trailer drove perpendicular to the Model S. Tesla said that both the driver and the autopilot did not notice the trailer against the sunny sky, so the system couldn’t apply brakes.

The 50,000 Teslas to be delivered in the next six months would almost match the automaker’s full-year 2015 deliveries.

The company blamed an unusually large number of vehicles still in transit to customers and an “extreme” production ramp that led to nearly half of the quarter’s vehicles being made in the last four weeks. That was about 15% fewer than the 17,000 vehicles it had predicted in May.

The 87-year-old author claimed that the company did not publically disclosed the accident, which took place on May 7, and informed after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said to investigate the event.

Some analysts have questioned Tesla’s ability to smoothly and quickly transition to higher-volume production, given the rocky start for its Model X. The technology-heavy sport utility vehicle has faced problems including parts shortages and quality issues, such as non-fastening doors.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has pledged to meet the company’s manufacturing targets, even as he has separately acknowledged that the complexity of the Model X’s design throttled early-stage production speed. “This is highly unusual for an automaker, considering this model was launched in” the third quarter. The maker of electric cars and energy-storage devices now expects to deliver about 50,000 cars in the second half, according to a statement.

Palo Alto, CA – July 3, 2016 – Tesla produced 18,345 vehicles in Q2, an increase of 20% from Q1, and exited the quarter consistently producing just under 2,000 vehicles per week. “Their track record is too much over-promise and under-deliver in terms of specific targets”.
