Tesla Motors is releasing a new version of Autopilot overnight, adding features the company says will make it safer and more reliable.

The Autopilot v8.0 software update that Elon Musk has been teasing about since late August is finally rolling out starting this Wednesday night.

Telsa’s Norwegian customers are unhappy with the U.S. electric-car manufacturer, saying their models marketed with an “insane mode” of acceleration needed a lot more Viking.

Let’s start with the biggest improvement of V8 over V7- the upgraded Autopilot service. We’re also expecting to see more information on the software’s functions coming out soon – and maybe even the usual Easter eggs Tesla has been traditionally bundling its software packages with. This means that the probability of picking up substantial masses in the periphery of your Tesla is going to be drastically increased. Musk says the change should help avoid crashes like the one that killed a Tesla driver in Florida in May. Yesterday, we reported that hackers were able to infiltrate the Model S from 12 miles away; last week, the company and Autopilot supplier Mobileye got into a public fight over safety concerns. This feature works on its own by venting the cabin and turning on the AC whenever it detects temperature exceeds beyond 40C.

That said, this also isn’t the first time where Tesla has had a brush with the law in the country. It has been created to function as a supplementary sensor to the primary camera and image processing system which powers the Autopilot feature.

The update is being rolled out over-the-airwaves today in the USA, before Teslas in the United Kingdom receive the update in the next few weeks. The update number 8.1 will allow users to set their own min and max temperatures to engage the automatic temperature control.

Software update 8.0 kicks off a significant over-the-air overhaul of the Tesla touchscreen and introduces the biggest UI revamp since the launch of Model S. Customers who purchased their auto in 2012 will receive the same value of functionality and improvement as customers who purchased vehicles last month.
