Tesla targets U.S. , Australia and Germany for first Powerwall sales
The Powerwall, a rechargeable lithium ion home battery from the makers of the Tesla Model S vehicle , will be on sale in Australia by the end of the year.

Tesla says the Powerwall will be available later in 2015 through Tesla Energy partners.
The carmaker launched its Tesla Energy business offering batteries for homes, businesses and utilities at the end of April.
Modi will address a Renewable Energy Roundtable with United States Department of Commerce and Stanford University on 26 September, the prime minister’s office said in a statement on Sunday. Powerpack groups together offer powerful 100 kWh battery blocks ranging from 500 kWh to 10 MWh, reported CNET.
“In Germany and Australia, there is a time-based cost of electricity… it costs more sometimes today than others”, Musk said. The slick new lithium-ion battery system relies on solar panels to generate electricity, and then stores it for when it’s needed, which gives households the opportunity to not only cut their dependency on the electrical grid, but potentially free them up from it altogether.
Vassallo pointed out that the technology still has some way to improve – a 7kWH system will store little more than an hour’s electricity generated by a typical 5kWH solar system, meaning that some people may have to have several Powerwall, or equivalent, systems on their walls.
Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) chose Australia as the first country where the company plans to launch the Powerwall, a residential battery storage system.
This fight is already happening.
The analysts at Bernstein shared in their research note that Tesla’s batteries are not a reliable source of backup energy for residential use during power outages. All they do is provide the potential for users to monitor, adjust and level out their power consumption, reducing the need for peak power generation on hot summer’s days and cold winter’s days. But a Powerwall and solar panel will never be enough to take a house entirely off the grid, and that means retailers and generators will still draw their fixed fee – all while having to produce less power.
“Storage is a key part to make that happen”.

The standard model being plugged by Tesla – for the average household – is the 7kWh Powerwall. You can read the original here.
