Tesla To Partner With Garages Around Manhattan For Charging Stations

Once a Tesla is all charged up, it doesn’t have to sit there and hog the charger. Company CEO Elon Musk says that he wants to establish some sort of etiquette as to how the stations should be used. Tesla later added superchargers in Melbourne and rolled out lower-powered Destination Charging stations in regional areas across the east coast.

Tesla drivers won’t be the only ones to benefit from enhanced charging infrastructure in New York City in the coming years.

According to a New York Times report, the auto company is planning a partnership with about two dozen garages around town where 240-volt charging units for the vehicle would be available. But the main problems of using electric vehicle are finding parking slot, charging point because the areas have become pretty dense and many people are living in the apartments.

Tesla plans to offer auto owners the choice to park in partner garages by the hour, day, week or even a month. Owners will still have to pay a garage’s parking fee, and garage operators will be able to charge for electricity use at their discretion. While the company’s Australian charging network is a long way off rivalling its US footprint, Tesla has been slowly but surely expanding across Australia’s east coast in a bid to make the complete Tesla offering more appealing to potential buyers.

A number of garages including ParkIt, Quick Park, iPark and Champion have already signed up to get their garages electrified as they look to address the growing charging needs of electric auto owners. Though not the so-called superchargers that can fully charge the cars in a half-hour, these chargers can give a full charge in three to four hours.

Tesla drivers in the New York City borough of Manhattan will soon have more places to charge. “Destination charging focuses on charging via the Tesla wall connectors at locations where our owners will be staying for a longer period of time, including shopping centres, hotels, wineries and resorts”. Gardi loves to drive his vehicle but believes parking and charging are still a big task.
