Tesla To Sell Electric Cars With Batteries Packed With More Energy

Tesla Motors (TSLA) has turned the Model S into the quickest production vehicle on the market.

Musk also revealed that with the same new 100 kWh battery pack, Tesla’s new performance model, the Model X P100D, will be able to accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.9 seconds.

Faster cars have been produced by Porsche AG and Ferrari SpA, the company said, but it noted those cars cost about $1 million and are no longer produced.

Both the new versions are available with a new battery pack that stretches the range between charges further than any electric vehicle has before.

The Model S P90D previously had a range of 270 miles.

The California carmaker announced the arrival of the Model S P100D with Ludicrous mode on Tuesday afternoon, and said the pure-electric auto has a 0-60 miles-per-hour acceleration time of 2.5 seconds.

Musk said the battery cell chemistry was the same as in previous Tesla models, but the battery pack was reconfigured to store more energy in the same space and handle increased cooling requirements.

The new 100 kWh battery will also give the Model S a range of 315 miles before it needs a charge.

If you’ve already ordered a P90D Ludicrous but have not taken delivery, you can upgrade to the 100 kWh battery for $10,000 more.

The P100D setup can also be applied to the Model X SUV. Meanwhile, the Model X SUV will see speeds of zero-to-sixty in only 2.9 seconds.

The Model S P100D will be available from $134,500 and the Model X P100D will be available from $135,500.

Musk said that for the first time “the fastest auto in the world, of any kind, is electric”.

The Tesla Model S sedan is now the third-fastest vehicle in the world, the luxury electric automaker announced Tuesday.

Smartly, Tesla isn’t leaving now P90D owners – or those who are awaiting delivery on a P90D – in the lurch. Customers who are waiting for the delivery of their P90D models have the option of upgrading to P100D variants by simply paying Dollars 10,000 (around INR 6.71 lakhs).

The P100D costs more than $120,000, and Tesla says every sale helps to fund development of the smaller and much more affordable Tesla Model 3. That’s because each of those automakers have been shown up, just a little bit, by Tesla-which claims that the new Model S P100D can get to 60 miles per hour in a mere 2.5 seconds.
