Texans at GOP convention come around to Trump after his acceptance speech
The hour-long and at times dark speech laid out the problems facing America today and why only he can fix them.

Donald Trump has accepted the Republican nomination for president, promising anxious Americans that they will be safer and richer if he is elected in November.
On the first day of the convention, anti-Trump delegates failed in a final bid to block Mr Trump’s nomination, not only causing a raucous dispute on the floor but also exposing the divisiveness within the party. His address on the closing night of the convention marked his highest-profile opportunity yet to heal Republican divisions and show voters he’s prepared for the presidency.
Women make up almost 50% of the total US workforce yet they still earn less. At the same time, he also accused her of “terrible, bad crimes” and said her greatest achievement may have been staying out of prison. Trump shouted throughout as he read off a teleprompter, showing few flashes of humor or even a smile.
Mr Trump accused Mrs Clinton, his Democratic rival, of utterly lacking the good judgment to serve in the White House and as the military’s commander in chief.
On Wednesday night, just before his running mate Mike Pence made his mainstage debut with a speech that conformed to official Republican talking points – “stand with allies”, “never apologize to enemies” – Trump sat with two senior New York Times reporters to say nearly precisely the opposite.
The appearance in Florida came as Clinton is expected to reveal her vice presidential selection, an announcement that appeared to be delayed Friday in the wake of a terrorist attack in Munich, another in a string of European attacks.
He pledged to stick to his most controversial proposals, which include building a wall along the entire US-Mexico border and suspending immigration from nations “compromised by terrorism”. “I think she’s done very, very well”.
Kelly Schmidt from North Dakota said: “I think it’s been a great success”.
And as in previous rallies, Trump had to pause at one point as a protester heckled him and had to be removed by security. The woman, waving a banner, started yelling more than 20 minutes into Trump’s remarks.
“The consequences are too great”, Walker said. “He will focus on making quality childcare affordable and accessible for all”, she added.
But Mrs Clinton was dismissive of Mr Trump’s speech tweeting: “We can do better than this”. “But I don’t want Ted Cruz’s endorsement”, he told the small group of volunteers and staffers. Then, Trump sparked more questions about his Oval Office readiness by suggesting in the midst of the convention that the US might not defend America’s North Atlantic Treaty Organisation partners with him as president. The tech billionaire declared to the Republican National Convention that he is “proud to be gay”, becoming the first speaker in the party’s history to do so from the stage of the Republican National Convention. He also disavowed America’s foreign policy posture under both Democratic and Republican presidents, criticizing “fifteen years of wars in the Middle East” and declaring that “Americanism, not globalism, will be our credo”.
Trump, who called himself “the law and order candidate”, went on to touch on his plans to “put America first”, his plans to cut taxes (“America is one of the highest-taxed nations in the world”, he said – a blatant lie), and how he wants to give up on worldwide treaties, which he says have lost America respect in the global scene. He had promised to describe “major, major” tax cuts.

Texas’ delegation to the Republican national convention was among the more resistant to nominee Donald Trump. Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine has emerged as her top choice.
