Houston (7-7) scored a huge win over the Indianapolis Colts last week to pull a game ahead in the AFC South standings.
“Obviously, I’m excited for myself personally, but I’m more excited for this team”, Weeden said. “He’s smart. He’s done a good job for us”.
In 24 career starts, Weeden has won just five games and hasn’t won as a starter since December 9, 2012 when he was a member of the Cleveland Browns and led them to a 30-7 victory over Kansas City.
Tennessee (3-12) plays its final game of the season at Indianapolis against the Colts (7-8) on Sunday, Jan. 3 at 12 p.m.
Running back Antonio Andrews fumbled on the team’s opening possession, and Texans safety Quintin Demps picked the ball up and returned it for a touchdown.
Weeden, who was claimed off of waivers from the Dallas Cowboys, got off to a rocky start yesterday but was solid overall in leading Houston to a 34-6 victory over the Titans. Entering Monday night’s game, the Colts needed 10 specific games to go their way. But dammit, if there’s one Texan we can say has done his job with 100 percent precision and accuracy this season, it’s long snapper Jon Weeks. Weeden led the Texans to a field goal on his first drive after replacing injured T.J. Yates.
“Today we were a little short-handed and it’s tough to get something going offensively”, interim coach, Mike Mularkey said.
“He has progressed well through the protocol and he’s basically in the last phase of that evaluation, and so I’ll know more on Wednesday”, coach Bill O’Brien said.
Houston quarterback Brian Hoyer has turned to acupuncture after suffering his second concussion in a month.
NOTES: Titans WR Kendall Wright started and caught three passes before going to the locker room after re-injuring his left knee, which kept him out of three games in November.

Another fumble on a punt by the Titans’ Harry Douglas handed Houston the ball at the Tennessee 11 yard line. Asked if he might rest Hoyer against Jacksonville to prepare for the playoffs, O’Brien said only that the Texans need to play to win. O’Brien said he thought Clowney was fine…. Quarterback Brian Hoyer is nearing his return from a concussion after missing the past two games. You really don’t want to have to move guys all around all the time, but we had to do that in the beginning because we had injuries.
